Welcome to Medicare Visit

a wellness exam where you and your doctor can discuss your current health and history. If you choose to take advantage of this benefit, the visit must be conducted within the first 12 months you’re enrolled in Medicare. During the visit, your doctor will:
- Measure your vital information like height, blood pressure, body mass and weight.
Assess risk factors for depression.
Review your personal and family health history.- Provide counseling and referrals as needed.
- Offer to discuss end-of-life issues, like information on advance directives to name someone who would make your medical decisions on your behalf in the event that you become too ill to make decisions yourself.
- Make recommendations for tests and screenings that could identify medical issues early and provide information about preventive screenings, many of which are covered by Medicare for free.
When you make your appointment, let your doctor’s office know you would like to schedule your “Welcome to Medicare” preventive visit. Bring the following to your visit:
- Medical records, including immunization records.
- Family health history.
- A list of any prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements that you currently take, how often you take them, and why.
If you enroll in Original Medicare, you will need to visit a doctor who accepts Medicare-approved payment as full compensation. If you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, in most cases you will need to visit a doctor who participates in your plan’s provider network. Our team of licensed insurance agents are here to help answer any questions you may have.
